It’s ok to ask for help

I made the decision to go see a business coach/counselor/therapist – whatever you want to call it….and it was the best. Granted, I’ve gone once but I’m clearly already cured. Jokes aside, I’ve written plenty of times about feeling alone as a business owner.

It took a swift kick in the ass by my managing director to go to the appointment. I mean, I could keep whining on my blog or I could do something about it. Trust me, I seriously considered the first option.

Here is what I want you to remember:

Ask for help. Whether it is your leadership team, your mom, your dog – it doesn’t matter. Just ask.
It’s ok to go talk to someone. It’s even better if they are a trained professional.
Listen to them. If they tell you to get a hobby – then maybe try cooking, reading or wine. If they tell you to get a personal assistant – then do it.

It was a good week to be Frank; a reprieve for both of us. We read, sat by the fire, slept, had the sun on our faces and just breathed. #cabinlife

Rest is something I don’t allow, the guilt of not responding to that email, text, phone call, or not walking Frank, visiting Little Fox and God forbid reading a book that isn’t about business or taking time to relax on my patio…puts my nervous system in overdrive and I can’t shutdown.

My body said “hey asshole, the lack of sleep (2 hrs a night), diet of cheez-its or lack of, combined with perimenopause and constant stress means we’re shutting down your brain - say goodbye to problem-solving, forming sentences, regulating your emotions…you’re done.”

It isn’t lost on me that the exact thing I built the Woman’s Entrepreneurial Fellowship for is the exact thing I’m rejecting.

I know all of you picked up on this before me. You reached out, sent notes, prayed, offered help, gave advice and warned me what would happen. I tend to be a little dense and stubborn. Last week it hit me hard. Those damn business owners pick up on everything.

Taking time for yourself, to truly go off grid, to rest, recover, and just not be your business is not selfish; it’s the most important thing you can do for your business and your own survival.

Putting this here as a reminder to myself that I am an idiot, and you need to practice what you preach.

We bought the cabin 10 years ago for this exact reason and the last three years I have been up there only a few times. The world isn’t gonna end if you don’t respond to that email, text or call.

✌️ i’ll see you in a few, I’m going to my happy place.

If you don’t believe in yourself, then you’re not gonna get any further than you are. That voice in your head is a dick, stop listening to it.
